Military relocation to Ottawa: straight answers

The questions CAF and RCMP families ask me most, answered plainly. Still stuck? Call me — I've been through it personally.

Can I choose my own REALTOR® for a military move?

Yes. No one assigns you an agent. You pick — but choose someone registered as a third-party supplier and genuinely experienced with the IRP: HHT timelines, portal uploads, and the comparable sales needed to substantiate your price. More on choosing your agent.

Is BGRS the same as SIRVA now?

BGRS transitioned to SIRVA in early 2026. The name changed; your process didn't — same portal, same House Hunting Trip, same benefit structure. You'll see both names floating around during the transition, which is normal.

What is a House Hunting Trip?

A funded 5–7 day window to find your home. The whole game is preparation — landing with a ranked shortlist instead of starting cold. See the full HHT playbook.

What does the relocation program cover?

The IRP aims to make your move roughly cost-neutral, split into core benefits, flexible funds you can direct, and a Real Estate Incentive if you rent out your origin home rather than selling. Exact figures come from the current-year CAFRD directive and your planning session. See the benefit buckets.

How fast do I need to act after my posting message?

Quickly. Register your file, book your planning session, and lock in your team before booking HHT travel. Speed protects your priority window. See step one.

Do you help RCMP and federal relocations too?

Yes — RCMP and Government of Canada relocations follow similar third-party-supplier rules, and I'm approved for those moves as well.
